Hindus hold Yamunotri Dham, one of the Chota Char Dham pilgrimage sites, in high regard because it is where the Yamuna River starts. The yatra season lasts from the end of April or beginning of May, when Akshaya Tritiya commences, until Bhai Dooj in October or November. During this time, pilgrims not only beg Goddess Yamuna for blessings, but they also sense the energy of the Himalayas, which makes them feel better. The trek to Yamunotri isn't simply a religious one; it's also a spiritual journey through some of India's most beautiful and tranquil regions.
1. Starting Point—Rishikesh/Dehradun: You can get to Rishikesh or Dehradun by car, train, or plane to start your trip to Yamunotri. These communities are excellent places to live, work, and get things done.
2. Route to Barkot: You may go to Barkot from Rishikesh or Dehradun by taking Mussoorie or Chamba. This wonderful trip lasts 6 to 7 hours and lets you stop and explore the attractions along the way. The views of the foothills of the Himalayas are breathtaking.
3. Barkot to Janki Chatti: You may reach Janki Chatti from Barkot by using the road that runs past Hanuman Chatti. There are beautiful parts of this well-kept road, views of rivers, and people selling things along the side of the road. Only cars can get to Janki Chatti.
4. Trek to Yamunotri Temple: It is possible to walk 6 miles from Janki Chatti to Yamunotri Temple. There are natural attractions and services that people require along the way. Lovers of the area stroll through Phool Chatti and Divya Shila, where they can see snow-fed waterfalls and streams.
5. Transport Options: If you can't walk, you may just rent ponies, palkis, and pitthus at Janki Chatti. These services enable older pilgrims and those who are sick or hurt to complete the walk in a safe and calm way.
6. Weather Considerations: The weather could change a lot, so be sure to check the forecast before you leave. The best time is in the summer; however, monsoons can trigger landslides. You should always bring warm clothes and rain gear on your trip, especially in the summer, to stay safe and comfortable.
7. Pilgrim Facilities & Amenities: Along the road, pilgrims will find areas to rest, tea stalls, first-aid facilities, and shops run by locals. You can stay in Barkot, Janki Chatti, or Hanuman Chatti. Plan beforehand where you'll stay, especially during the busy months of yatra.
