You need to travel by plane, train, and car to go to Gangotri. The closest airport is Jolly Grant Airport, which is in Dehradun. It is around 250 kilometers from Gangotri. You may get to Rishikesh or Uttarkashi by bus or cab from there. The closest train station is at Rishikesh, which is simple to get to from several big cities in India. You may get to Uttarkashi via taxi or bus from Rishikesh or Haridwar. From there, you can drive to Gangotri. The road from Uttarkashi to Gangotri is around 99 kilometers long and goes lovely past mountain villages like Gangnani, Bhatwari, and Harsil. The road is still open all the way to the temple, but tourists should check its state ahead of time, especially during the rainy season when landslides happen a lot. During the yatra season, some pilgrims may be able to use helicopters to get there sooner, although the delay depends on the weather and how many planes are available.
